The reporting of the distribution of energy sources and emissions is regulated by the law based on the Internal Market Directive for Electricity. The reporting concerns electricity sold during the previous calendar year. The total distribution and emissions data is published when the production data for the previous year are available.
Fortum Markets Oy sold electricity contracts to both households and enterprise customers in 2023. Electricity was purchased from the Nord Pool power exchange and from smaller electricity producers.
In 2023, the origins of electricity sold to enterprise customers was distributed as follows:
- 26.94 % renewable energy
- 68.62 % nuclear energy
- 4.44 % fossil fuel production
The origin of the Fortum Vihreä additional service was 100% renewable energy.
For enterprise customers with an annual electricity consumption of less than 200 000 kWh, the origin of the electricity contracts was nuclear. The emissions generated in its production were as follows:
- Accumulation of spent nuclear fuel: 2.15 mg/kWh
Large companies (annual consumption over 200 000 kWh) can purchase the residual allocation of the electricity production, which includes electricity produced using nuclear power and fossil fuels, as well as the share of renewable electricity production that has not been sold separately as a guarantee of origin. Emissions of the residual mix were as follows:
- Carbon dioxide (CO2): 30.59 g CO2/kWh
In 2023, the distribution of the origins of electricity contracts sold to households and enterprise customers in total was as follows:
- 35.45 % renewable energy
- 62.53 % nuclear energy
- 2.03 % fossil fuel production (only concerns large companies)
Emissions from the production of electricity contracts sold by Fortum Markets Oy:
- Accumulation of spent nuclear fuel: 1.96 mg/kWh (nuclear energy)
- Carbon dioxide (CO2): 13.94 g CO2/kWh (residual mix, only concerns large companies)
